Based in Edinburgh, Woolly Originals uses vintage knitting machines to make bags for knitters, crocheters, crafters and artists to use for their projects and their tools.
The designs are based on a range of ideas and inspirations: from the hand knitter's brioche or tuck stitch to Scottish wildflowers and trees.
Shetland wools from Jamieson's of Shetland are used to create the external fabric of the products. These are lined with cotton or linen fabrics from Scottish Linen in Fife, or occasionally upcycled fabrics from the Borders Scrapstore in Musselburgh, East Lothian. Wool from other sources e.g. Phileas Yarns in York, or Portuguese yarn from Burel Mountain Originals may be used for one-off projects. Buttons, recycled fabric and crochet techniques are used to enhance and decorate some of the bags.
Bags are available for sale in this e-shop. Bags are also for sale at:
- the Dovecot Studios shop on Infirmary Street, Edinburgh;
- Ginger Twist Studio, London Road, Edinburgh;
- Loop on Camden Passage, London; and
- Storkurinn in Reykjavik, Iceland.
These products are handmade and whilst we pay great attention to detail, they may not be without very minor imperfections. This is part of their charm: a handcrafted item made in Scotland, using materials made in Scotland.
